wusel, Tue, 30 Mar 1993 02:50:26 +0200:
- added script based history rebuilder -- submitted by gm@germal.escape.de
(Gerald Malitz) -- to contrib/. NOT TESTED YET! Thanks, Gerald.
wusel, Sun, 4 Apr 1993 04:48:19 +0200:
- added HACK into expire: if all articles have expired, i. e. if history
has a size of 0 bytes, dbz/relaynews seems to have problems to rebuild
it. To prevent this situation, a dummy history entry is included into
history.n; it will expire normally but revived each time expire runs.
I'm open for suggestions for a better solution ...
wusel, Tue, 13 Apr 1993 03:35:13 +0200:
- fixed parsing problem in uulib:news/bin/newgroup; AREXX seems only to
use spaces as argument separators -- if you use TABs in your uulib:config
file, uulib:news/bin/newgroup would use "@" instead of e.g. "news@hactar.-
hanse.de" as the notification receipient =:-< Thanks to Andreas M. Kirch-
witz for pointing this out (and the funny phone talk =:->).
wusel, Thu, 29 Apr 1993 21:36:22 +0200:
- made relaynews delete `Return-Path:' headers, too. These are frequently
contained in the `bit.listserv.*' groups and simply useless (they should
not put into the posting during the gateing process, as this header only
is defined for mail and should be created only by the MDA). There is no
flag to prevent this behaviuor (and there will never be one).
wusel, Thu, 29 Apr 1993 22:23:23 +0200:
- relaynews now only logs `removed files ...' if status is non-zero; this
has been done as usually `errlog' should be empty and these messages
confused some poeple.
- added `newsdaily' script to distribution; I dislike this, but I had to
include the needed binaries (grep, sort, ...) to assure it works any-
where. These binaries are located in contrib/newsdaily/ -- USE WITH
care, as the supplied sort is GNU's sort, not the AmigaDOS program with
the same name!
Example output follows:

wusel, Fri, 30 Apr 1993 22:06:21 +0200:
- fixactive no longer chokes on `fras.!wichtig'; not sure why Walter
broke the group name on `!'. The comment says it's for checkgroups,
but what the hell does checkgroups have to do with the active file?
Still puzzled =:->
wusel, Mon, 10 May 1993 22:49:06 +0200:
- made sendbatches log more problems in uulib:news/batchlog; fixed
problem with detecting # of already queued jobs.
- newsdaily now also lists uulib:news/batchlog.
wusel, Tue, 11 May 1993 03:43:17 +0200:
- unsharmap got a new flag: `-u' which stands for `USENET maps', i. e.
with this flag set it also accepts the postings in news.lists.ps-maps
(which are, aginst what Brian Reid states, not 100% compatible to the
format used in comp.mail.maps).
wusel, Mon, 31 May 1993 04:48:59 +0200:
- updated relaynews; now chokes on non-conforming articles as recent
versions do (cnews-020592). Rejects articles with missing or duplicate
required headers (From:, Subject:, ...) and spaces in the Newsgroups:
specification. This can't be turned off, since these articles do not
conform to RFC 1036 and will be rejected at any other site running a
more recent news system. Thus, best is to reject them locally for
the benefit of e. g. INews getting a non-zero return code. You'll never
know if someone out there throws your articles away ...
